Weighted Grade Calculator (Categories & Missing Assignments)

Updated · Free · No sign-up · Runs in your browser

Calculate your course grade from weighted categories such as homework, quizzes, labs, a midterm and a final. Enter scores as points (45 out of 50) or percentages.

Leave a score blank to mark missing or not-yet-graded work: see your grade so far, your grade if it counts as zero, and the average you need on the rest. Runs entirely in your browser — nothing you enter is uploaded, stored or sent to a server.

Worked examples

  1. Homework 92% (20%), quizzes 45/50 (20%), midterm 78% (25%), final not taken (35%)

    • (92 × 20 + 90 × 20 + 78 × 25) ÷ 65

    → 86% so far (B)

  2. Same course, final counted as 0

    • 5,590 ÷ 100

    → 55.9%

  3. Two categories: 50% weighted 1, 100% weighted 3

    • (50 × 1 + 100 × 3) ÷ 4

    → 87.5%

How to calculate a weighted grade

  1. Turn each category into a percentage: points earned ÷ points possible × 100.
  2. Multiply each percentage by its weight.
  3. Add the results and divide by the total weight of the graded categories.

Grade calculator with missing assignments

"Leave out" shows your grade on the work graded so far — what most online gradebooks display mid-semester.

"Count as 0" shows what happens if the missing work is never turned in. The gap between the two is what is still at stake.

Weights that do not add up to 100%

The calculator divides by the total weight, so weights of 2, 1 and 1 work the same as 50%, 25% and 25%.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate my grade with weighted categories?

Multiply each category percentage by its weight, add them up and divide by the total weight. The calculator does this for you and shows the letter grade.

How are missing assignments handled?

Leave the score blank. Choose "Leave out" to see your grade so far, or "Count as 0" to see your grade if the work is never submitted.

Can I enter points instead of percentages?

Yes. Enter the points you earned and the points possible (for example 45 out of 50). For percentages, keep "Out of" at 100.

What do I need on the remaining work?

Set a target course grade. The calculator shows the average you need on all blank (remaining) items to reach it.

Is the letter grade the same at every school?

No. The table uses the common US 10-point scale. Check your syllabus for your school's cut-offs.

Are my scores uploaded?

No. Everything stays in your browser and is cleared when you close the page.
