Worked examples

  1. One word changed

    • A: Then $25 per month
    • B: Then $30 per month

    → Words mode lists 25 → 30

  2. Same change, by line

    • Two lines, only the first one edited

    → Lines mode: 1 added, 1 removed

  3. Only spacing differs

    • "Total: $30 " vs "Total: $30"
    • Ignore extra spaces on

→ the texts are reported as the same

  4. Copy for an email

    • Press Copy result

    → removed text is marked [-old-], added text {+new+}

How to compare two texts

  1. Paste the original text into A and the changed text into B.
  2. Choose Words for sentences or Lines for long documents and code.
  3. Keep "Ignore extra spaces" on if the text was copied from a PDF or email and the spacing may differ.
  4. Read the colored result and the list of changes, then copy either one if you need to share it.

Reading the result

  • Green = text that is in B but not in A (added).
  • Red with strikethrough = text that is in A but not in B (removed).
  • A replaced word shows as a removal followed by an addition; the list shows it as old → new.
  • The copied result marks removals as [-text-] and additions as {+text+}, so it still makes sense in a plain email or chat.

Frequently asked questions

How do I find the differences between two texts?

Paste the two versions into A and B. The changes appear right away: green for added text and red strikethrough for removed text.

Should I compare by word or by line?

Words shows exactly what changed inside a sentence. Lines is better for long documents and code, and shows which lines were added, removed or edited.

What does "Ignore extra spaces" do?

Runs of spaces and tabs count as one space, and spaces at the end of lines are ignored. Line breaks still count. Turn it off when spacing matters, for example code indentation.

Can I copy the comparison?

Yes. "Copy result" copies the whole text with [-removed-] and {+added+} marks; "Copy list of changes" copies one change per line.

Does it compare formatting such as bold text or tables?

No. Only the plain text is compared. Formatting, images and table layout are ignored.

Is my text uploaded?

No. Both texts stay in this browser and are not stored or sent anywhere. Close the tab when you are done with sensitive documents.
